Senate Proposes Upgrade of Oloibiri Airstrip to Air Force Base to Boost Development in Bayelsa
The Nigerian Senate has recently put forth a proposal to revamp the abandoned Shell Airstrip at Oloibiri oil well one, located in Bayelsa, with the intention to transform it into a modern Air Force Base. The Shell Airstrip, which was established in 1958 covering more than 25 hectares of land, was built following the discovery of crude oil in 1956. During discussions in the Senate, lawmakers expressed their concerns about the neglect of the airstrip and its surroundings, emphasizing the importance of redeveloping the land to create a valuable asset for the community.
