The Muslim community in Ondo State has voiced their concerns to the state government, seeking clarity on their level of inclusion in the state’s affairs.

Speaking during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day prayer held at Akure Central Mosque, the Chief Imam of Akure Kingdom, Sheikh Abdul Hakeem Yayi Akorede II, openly criticised Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his absence at Islamic events since his inauguration over a year ago.

The Chief Imam declared that the Muslim community would no longer accept representatives of the Governor at mosque-related state functions.

“Let the Governor himself tell us that he does not belong to the Muslims,” he said emphatically.

Sheikh Akorede further expressed dissatisfaction with the governor’s delegation of his duties to appointees.

“The Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs is not the governor we voted for. We want to see the governor we elected, not any of his representatives,” he stated firmly.

The Imam also recalled his own contributions during a period of crisis in the state, emphasising the pivotal role he played in restoring peace when many were silent.

Despite his grievances, Sheikh Akorede offered prayers for the state, the nation, and the families of the fallen heroes.
