Armed Robber Raid Kebbi Radio Station, Cart Away Valuable Equipments

A disturbing incident occurred on Thursday night at Kebbi Radio Station when 15 armed thieves raided the facility, attacking three security personnel, including a civil defense officer and two private watchmen.

The assailants overpowered the security team using guns and machetes, severely injuring them before tying them with wires, and proceeded to loot the station, stealing valuable equipment from the offices of the general manager, directors, transformer room, and transmission room.

 

The stolen items include accessories of the 33KV transformer, two generator cables, large batteries, two armoured cables, plasma television sets, computers, and critical transmission cables.

Upon receiving news of the incident, the commissioner for Information and Culture, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi; the special adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki; accompanied by the general manager of Kebbi Radio, Engr. Mahe Muhammad; the general manager of Kebbi State Television, Alhaji Aminu Sani Kamba with some security personnel visited the scene to assess the damage.

Reacting to the attack, Hon. Yakubu Ahmed expressed shock and dismay. “This is very shocking indeed. It is the third time the station has been attacked, but this incident is by far the worst.

I want to assure you that proper investigation will be carried out, we are going back to the drawing board to review our security architecture “, the commissioner said.

He assured the public that relevant security agencies would investigate the incident thoroughly to apprehend the culprits, and also promised the adoption of enhanced security measures to prevent future occurrences.

The special adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Malam Yahaya Sarki and the general mangers of Kebbi Radio and Television, Engr. Mahe Muhammad and Alhaji Aminu Sani Kamba expressed deep shock over the unfortunate incident.

The incident came at a time when the people of Kebbi State are celebrating the digitalization and rehabilitation of the station by governor Nasir Idris, which included the installation of state-of-the-art equipment.

“Whatever is going to be done to forestall future occurrence will be done; this is just too much”, the special adviser lamented.

The injured security personnel are currently receiving treatment at Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital,

Birnin Kebbi.
