The former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Barr.Olumide Akpata has won the Labour Party (LP) primary election for the upcoming Edo governorship election.
The Edo governorship election is billed for September 21.
Ahead of the primary, the former NBA president wrote the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over fear that his party may hand-pick the flagbearer.
Akpata, in a letter dated February 18 and addressed to Mahmood Yakubu, chairman of INEC, alleged that there is a plot to handpick a candidate for the election by the leadership of the party.
He said his attempts to get the leadership of the party to see reason and provide accountability were not successful.
Akpata scored 316 votes to win the exercise held in Benin City, the Edo State capital, on Friday.
The Deputy governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who is the returning officer for the poll made the declaration after collating the results.
