Bayelsa House of Assembly screens 13 commissioner nominees
The Bayelsa State House of Assembly, BYHAS, on Thursday, screened and confirmed thirteen out of the fourteen commissioner nominees sent to it by the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri.
Our correspondent gathered that Gov. Diri had last week sent fourteen commissioner nominee list including three former Assembly members, and eight immediate past commissioners to the state assembly for screening.
The screened nominees includes immediate past commissioners, (Work and Infrastructure) Moses Teibowei, (Attorney General of Justice) Biriyai Dambo SAN, (Finance) Maxwell Ebibai, (Education)Dr. Emelah Gentle, (Special Duty East) Brodrick Preye , and (Mineral Resources) Dr. Ebieri Jones.
Also the immediate commissioner for (Youths and Sports) Daniel Igali, who is also a nominee was absent, while Mrs. Koku Ebiuwou Obiyai, a former Assembly member was asked to bow and leave.
Others were Mr. George Flint, Engr. Komuko Akari Kharin, Mr. Perepuighe Biewari, Barr. Peter Afagha, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei and a former Council Chairman, Mr. Michael Magbisa.
We also gathered that the commissioner nominee list elicited some form of uproar across the state as most of the returnee nominee were people who performed below expectations.
Governor Diri dissolved his cabinet a week after his inauguration on February 14.
The Speaker presided over the screening which took place at the Assembly complex , Yenagoa, the state capital.
