The Bayelsa State Chairman of the Social Democratic Party ,SDP, Allen Amadein, said the party will contend in court the just concluded election in Bayelsa State that produced the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Candidate Douye Diri as winner.
Amadein, explained that the margin of lead at which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, used in declaring the candidate of the PDP, Douye Diri as winner is not enough to make him winner since it’s less than the number of votes cancelled.
Amadein, stated this on Monday 13th November, at the collation centre,INEC Office,Ovom Yenagoa, to Newsmen, after INEC declared the PDP candidate as the winner of the election.
His words ”We are going to contend this result, normally if you look at the margin, at which they used in declaring Senator Douye Diri as the winner is not enough, the cancelation, the votes that is been cancel it’s more than the votes Diri got in this election.
“So in the normal circumstances there’s suppose to be a re-run, because there’s a lot of places cancelation is being done and those cancelation is been done and those areas are places that other political parties were winning.
“What they did was that if they find out that other political parties are winning in a particular area they will cancel those areas and they will announce that of the PDP, and the margin, the number of votes, that’s been cancelled is more than the vote Senator Douye Diri got in this election.” He noted.
The chairman However called on supporters of the SDP and Bayelsians to remain calm, while believing that the election will be upturned and a rerun conducted.
