Boyfriend on the run as police probe sudden death of Abuja lady

The Police have commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 27-year-old Abuja lady, Esther Akwaji who allegedly died in the custody of her boyfriend now on the run.

Spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, revealed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Adeh said the deceased brother, Mr Peter Akwaji reported the death of her sister at Dei-Dei Divisional Police Headquarters on 22, January.

Peter told the police that her sister left home on Jan. 21 at about 3:00 pm to go to a bank in Dei-Dei, but never returned.

Peter, however, disclosed that at about 10:30 p.m. the same day, he received an anonymous telephone call from an individual who identified himself as the deceased’s boyfriend.

He said the caller told him that the deceased visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her and after eating, she began to vomit.

Peter said the caller to him that his sister was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.

Adeh said a team of police operatives from Dei-Dei Division following the report, immediately swung into action and proceeded to the hospital where the lifeless body of the deceased was recovered.

She said the lifeless body was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, to determine the exact cause of death.

The FCT Police Command spokesperson said the command had commenced discreet investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death, while efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend the alleged boyfriend, who is presently on the run.

She pledged the commitment of the command to ensure a thorough investigation into the matter to ensure justice.

According to her, further developments will be communicated as the investigations progress.
