Crisis looms in FCT PDP amid allegations of nepotism, high-handedness

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly facing internal discord, fuelled by accusations of high-handedness and nepotism among its leadership.

It was gathered that the party has been struggling to maintain unity since its congress held on Aug. 31, with tensions mounting over perceived violations of the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

Sources within the party allege that some members are acting with impunity, disregarding party rules, while the leadership either appears helpless or is allegedly turning a blind eye, causing discontent among certain factions.

The crisis is said to be exacerbated by claims that all major appointments within the party structure have been monopolised by Abuja indigenes, sidelining non-indigenes who, despite being a significant electoral bloc for the PDP in the FCT, are being marginalised.

This development, according to observers, could potentially reverse the gains the party has enjoyed in the territory.

A source who requested anonymity, highlighted the severity of the situation, citing an incident where a party chieftain, sanctioned by the party’s zonal executive, has reportedly refused to comply with the disciplinary committee’s decision.

The source further accused former Senator Philip Aduda, considered the party’s leader in Abuja, of adopting a dictatorial approach, thereby aggravating the already tense situation.

Efforts to reach the party’s leadership for comments were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
