EFCC Probes Mele Kyari, 13 Others Over Alleged Financial Misconduct At NNPCL
A document obtained on Friday by Punch from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has confirmed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating the former Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPCL, Mele Kyari
The anti-corruption agency is also probing 13 other former senior officials of the national oil company over allegations of abuse of office and misappropriation of public funds.
The EFCC’s request, titled “Investigation Activities: Request for Information,” is dated April 28, 2025, and was addressed to the current Group Managing Director of NNPCL.
According to the document, those under investigation include Abubakar Yar’Adua, Mele Kyari, Isiaka Abdulrazak, Umar Ajiya, Dikko Ahmed, Ibrahim Onoja, Ademoye Jelili, and Mustapha Sugungun. Also listed are Kayode Adetokunbo, Efiok Akpan, Babatunde Bakare, Jimoh Olasunkanmi, Bello Kankaya, and Desmond Inyama.
The EFCC stated: “The Commission is investigating a case of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds involving the listed officials of your organisation.”
The agency has formally requested certified true copies of the salary structures, emoluments, and allowances of all listed individuals, including those who are now retired.
Despite the seriousness of the investigation, NNPCL’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, has declined to respond to multiple media inquiries regarding the matter.
His silence has raised concerns about transparency and accountability within the corporation.
Public skepticism continues to grow, with many Nigerians questioning whether the NNPCL is concealing deeper issues surrounding the country’s troubled oil infrastructure.
