Ekiti Gov poll: Oyebanji sweeps all 16 LGAs, secures landslide re-election victory

 Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State after recording a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

Oyebanji polled 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 40,533 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, garnered 12,872 votes.

The outcome gave the incumbent governor a commanding lead of 278,691 votes over the PDP candidate, underscoring the APC’s dominance across the state and consolidating Oyebanji’s popularity at the polls.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner of the election in the early hours of Sunday after the completion of collation from the 16 local government areas of the state.

Announcing the result at the INEC headquarters on Iyin Road, Ado-Ekiti, the Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, said Oyebanji had satisfied all legal requirements and was duly returned elected.

“Therefore, I, Adenike Oladiji, the Returning Officer for the 2026 Ekiti Governorship Election, hereby declare that Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is duly elected and returned as Governor of Ekiti State,” she stated.

INEC disclosed that the state has 988,251 registered voters, out of which 384,940 were accredited for the election.

A total of 382,109 votes were cast, while valid votes stood at 375,777.

The APC candidate won all 16 local government areas of the state, recording comfortable margins across the councils.

In Ado-Ekiti Local Government, the state’s most populous council, Oyebanji polled 38,026 votes, while the PDP secured 3,817 votes and the ADC garnered 1,054 votes.

The APC also dominated Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA with 29,278 votes against PDP’s 2,119 votes and ADC’s 511 votes.

In Ekiti West LGA, the APC polled 28,258 votes, while the PDP and ADC secured 3,644 and 674 votes respectively.

At Ikole LGA, Oyebanji garnered 26,508 votes, while the PDP and ADC polled 750 and 812 votes respectively.

The governor also secured 26,359 votes in Ekiti East LGA, defeating the PDP, which polled 2,795 votes, and the ADC, which scored 1,730 votes.

In Ijero LGA, the APC recorded 25,506 votes, while the PDP and ADC secured 2,479 and 2,026 votes respectively.

Other results showed that the APC polled 20,500 votes in Moba LGA against the PDP’s 1,572 votes and ADC’s 994 votes.

In Oye LGA, Oyebanji secured 18,975 votes, while the PDP and ADC garnered 2,891 and 998 votes respectively.

The APC also won Ido/Osi LGA with 17,901 votes, Ayekire/Gbonyin LGA with 17,133 votes, Ekiti South-West LGA with 14,705 votes, Emure LGA with 14,325 votes, Ise/Orun LGA with 12,907 votes and Ikere LGA with 11,116 votes.

In Ilejemeje LGA, the APC polled 8,984 votes, while in Efon LGA, Oyebanji secured 8,742 votes. Notably, PDP candidate Oluyede lost in his home local government area of Efon, where he polled 2,051 votes against the APC’s 8,742 votes, while the ADC secured 201 votes.
