Emir of Ilorin appoints Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki as Chief Imam

The Emir of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has appointed Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki as the new Chief Imam Fulani of the Ilorin Emirate.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday, following a rigorous selection process in which Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki emerged successful among several Islamic scholars who contested for the prestigious spiritual leadership position.

The new Chief Imam, 42, is a grandson of the eighth Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Ibrahim Dasuki Imam Fulani Agaka, and the son of the 10th Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Maliki bn Dasuki Agaka.

Before his appointment, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki was the founder and proprietor of Darul Bisharah Arabic and Islamic Studies, located at Airport road, Egbejila, Ilorin.

He also served as the Imam in charge of daily prayers and the weekly Jumu’ah service at Afsat Oloriegbe Memorial Mosque, Oko Olowo, where he earned recognition for his commitment to Islamic scholarship and community service.

The appointment by the Emir is expected to strengthen spiritual leadership within the Fulani community in the Ilorin Emirate and continue the rich religious heritage associated with the revered position.

Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Dasuki succeeds to one of the most respected Islamic leadership offices in the emirate, a role that has historically played a significant part in promoting religious guidance, unity and moral development among adherents.
