FAAN to Introduce Facial Recognition System for Faster Passenger Processing Checks, security

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to introduce a biometric facial recognition system, known as V-Pass, to enhance passenger processing across domestic airports under its management.

FAAN said the new technology is designed to make air travel faster, safer and more seamless by enabling passengers to verify their identities through facial recognition.

According to the authority, passengers will only be required to complete a one-time enrolment process, after which identity verification can be carried out electronically, reducing dependence on physical identification documents.

The agency noted that the system would also improve airport security and reduce waiting times through the use of automated electronic gates.

“The new biometric facial recognition system will make passenger processing faster, safer and more seamless across FAAN-managed domestic airports,” the authority said.

FAAN added that the V-Pass platform was developed with data protection and privacy considerations at its core and is fully compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR).

The authority described the initiative as part of its broader commitment to deploying smart, technology-driven solutions aimed at improving service delivery and passenger experience in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

FAAN said nationwide sensitisation campaigns and rollout updates for the new system would be announced in due course.
