Fiditi Grammar School Begins 70th Anniversary Celebration February 16
Stakeholders of Fiditi Grammar School have rolled out a 3-day programme of events full of activities to commemorate the School’s 70th Anniversary in a grand style.
The School which was founded on the 19th of February, 1954 has Churned out numerous important personalities who are doing marvelously well in their various fields of endeavour.
Determined to organise a befitting 70th Anniversary Celebration of the school, a Platinum Planning Committee has been inaugurated with sub-committees constituted to brainstorm and suggest concrete recommendations for the Central Committee’s approval.
According to Ade Ayeni, of 1960 class set and a Spokesperson of the Anniversary Publicity and Publication Committee, the School was founded through the thoughtfulness, vision, hardwork, wisdom and perseverance of the elders in 1954.
According to a statement issued by the Anniversary Committee, a brief introduction of elders who were part of the history of the school were released.
Among personalities who have contributed immensely towards the growth of the School included; “The first Principal of the school, Chief A.O.Adeyi,who was later appointed a Cabinet Minister in the old Westen Region Administration of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Chief Alex Olu.Ajayi, the third Principal of the school was later became a Registrar in WAEC and the Registrar of the old University of lfe.
” Through the instrumentality of Chief Alex Ajayi, the renowned Poet, Mr Christopher Okigbo was brought to Fiditi Grammar School as Vice Principal and was at the same time, Games Master. It has been said that this was the period he wrote his first poem.
The statement further revealed, that the school has produced young minds who have today become great men in the society and quite a number have gone to contribute to the development of Nigeria in many areas of life, from the media, accountancy, business, medicine,
administration, law, religion, law, arts, culture etc.
It stated, that a very remarkable phenomenon in the development of the school is the immense contributions of the Fiditi Grammar School Old Students’ Association (FIGSOSA)which has had a great impact on the life of the school.
It also revealed, that the present National President of the Old Students’ Association is Prof Adesola Ogunniyi, a renowned Neuro-scientist.
“His invaluable leadership attributes and diplomatic tact have resolved quite a number of issues in the process of the implementation of critical decisions taken by members of the Association.
“Under the leadership of Prof Ogunniyi, many class sets have provided facilities which include, renovation of school buildings, provision of desks and tables worth millions of naira, the supply of laboratory science equipment, recruitment and payment of part time teachers, and the reconstruction of the school gate.
“One of such legacies of the Old Students’ Association of the school during his tenure is the launching of the Bode Olajumoke Youth Empowerment Foundation Centre (BOYEF) coming up on Saturday,17th February 2024, by Engr Seyi Makinde Governor of Oyo State.
“This has culminated into the building up of a 3-day programme of events full of activities, as follows:

LAUNCHING OF BODE OLAJUMOKE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FOUNDATION (BOYEF) Centre after it would commissioned by Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde. The (BOYEF) Centre is built for for Skills Acquisition for Young School Leavers.
Other activities include; Goodwill Messages, Special Guest of Honour’s Remarks, Cutting of Anniversary Cake,
Vote of Thanks by Mrs Taiwo Talabi, Anniversary Luncheon and Entertainment Galore.

Anniversary Thanksgiving Service
To be officiated by an old student, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, Secretary Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission ( NCPC), after everyone would sing the School Song to end activities of the Anniversary.
