How Governor Walz outshines Sen. Vance in spirited debate

Tonight’s debate featured an incredibly strong performance by both running mates, in my opinion.

Senator J.D. Vance did what he had to do to eloquently defend his boss, just as Governor Walz did for Kamala Harris, even through their closing statements.

On a few occasions, Vance was forced to acknowledge the illogicality of some of the positions taken by the top of his ticket and to agree with Governor Tim Walz, while defending a boss he once described as the moral equivalent of Adolf Hitler.

Vance also found himself eloquently disagreeing with his boss’s view on climate change, which his party leader called a hoax, a stance Governor Walz brilliantly and politely compelled him to admit was wrong.

Vance further struggled to defend the Republicans’ opposition to sensible gun control, showing deference to the unreasonable stance of the NRA, which bears significant responsibility for the lax gun control laws that have led to the deaths of too many Americans.

The lack of adequate regulations has allowed guns to proliferate on the streets and into the hands of individuals who cannot pass the necessary and reasonable background checks.

Both the Senator and the Governor did a commendable job tonight, arguably better than the top of their respective tickets, in my opinion.

I give a slight edge to Governor Walz, who held his ground creditably and performed masterfully, outshining his Yale-trained opponent, who sounded a bit more apologetic, defensive, and deflated on a few of his points.

I rate Governor Walz as the better performer tonight.

As a former teacher myself, I would grade Governor Walz an A- tonight, while I would give Senator Vance a B+.

Both of them deserve a passing grade, and I also believe that the moderators were very good and fair to both parties tonight.

However, they should have engaged in more fact-checking, especially on Senator Vance, who made a few misleading statements while defending his boss.

I rest my case.
