The Kebbi State Executilve Council, under the leadership of Governor Nasir Idris, has constituted a high-powered committee to investigate the recent unrest at the College of Health Sciences, Jega.
The students’ violent protest last week resulted in the burning of the provost’s residence and severe damage to his car.

The protest was reportedly sparked by concerns over the non-accreditation of courses at the institution.

Addressing the press after the council’s weekly meeting in Birnin Kebbi, on Wednesday, the commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmad Birnin Kebbi, disclosed that the committee has been given two weeks to submit its findings.
“The eight-member committee, chaired by the commissioner for Environment, Musa Muhammad Tungulawa, includes myself and other commissioners.
“The committee’s mandate is to thoroughly investigate the causes of the unrest, identify those responsible, assess the damage to property, and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrences,” he said.
Alhaji Yakubu emphasized that the governor and the executive council take the incident very seriously, noting it is the first major disturbance under the current administration.
“The government is committed to ensuring that such incidents do not happen again in any of our institutions. Strong measures will be implemented to address the situation,” the commissioner warned.
He also announced the dissolution of the interim committee previously established by the Ministry of Higher Education.
The retired head of service and current special adviser to the governor on Civil Service Matters, Safiyanu Garba Bena, will serve as the committee’s secretary.
