Man jailed 3 years for hemp trafficking
A Federal High Court in Ibadan on Thursday, sentenced one Monday Oliver, to a term of three years at the correctional centre, for peddling 195g of Cannabis Sativa.
Justice Nkeonye Maha, convicted and sentenced Oliver based on his guilty plea as well as the evidences tendered by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Maha added that the convict had not waste the time and resources of the court before pleading guilty to the charge.
“Therefore, Oliver is sentenced to three years imprisonment for each of the two offences.
“Sentencing shall run concurrently and starts from the date he was first arrested.
“The weed exhibit found in his possession shall be destroyed by the NDLEA,”he said
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs A.A. Balogun, had told the court that the convict committed the offence on Sept. 17, 2025, at Alafara Babanla, in Ologuneru, Ibadan.
Balogun said that operatives of the NDLEA had arrested the convict for being in possession of a sack containing 195g of the illicit substance following credible information.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act Cap n30 Law of the Federation 2004.
