The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State has extended its nationwide sensitization campaign on the National Value Charter (NVC) and the National Anthem to 13 schools in the region.

Led by Mrs Busola Olumide-Atiba, Assistant Director of Community and Orientation in the LG, the campaign focuses on educating students about the National Value Charter, a social contract between the government and citizens.

It outlines seven Nigerian Promises, which are expectations from the government, and seven Citizens’ Codes, which are responsibilities each citizen must uphold.

During the school visits, Mrs Olumide-Atiba emphasised the importance of values as the foundation of one’s life, urging students to embrace positive standards while rejecting vices.

“Whatever happens tomorrow is a result of the values or vices imbibed today,” she said, advising students to prioritise discipline, leadership, and accountability in their academic and personal lives.

The key messages of the campaign focused on discipline, leadership, and accountability.

Students were encouraged to abide by rules, practise self-control, manage their time effectively, and show respect for the National Anthem and other national symbols.

Leadership was emphasised, with students urged to lead by example and inspire their peers through positive actions.

Accountability was also a central theme, as students were reminded to take responsibility for their actions, learn from mistakes, and always consider the impact of their decisions on others.

They were encouraged to reflect on how their choices affect those around them and to strive to be good ambassadors for their families, schools, and communities.

On patriotism, Mrs Olumide-Atiba clarified that only the first stanza of the National Anthem is required in schools, while all three stanzas are reserved for national events, with the third stanza now recognised as the National Prayer.

She called on students to believe in Nigeria and trust in the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at economic recovery and a better future for the younger generation.

School prefects expressed their gratitude to NOA for the informative campaign, pledging to apply the lessons learned.

Principals commended the agency’s efforts to instil values in students, noting the importance of all stakeholders working together to ensure the success of government policies.

The NOA has visited eight secondary schools and five primary schools in Idanre, including Olofin Grammar School, Ebun Ogunyimika Comprehensive College, St Joseph Catholic Grammar School, and Methodist Caring Heart Mega School, among others.

According to Mrs Olumide-Atiba, the campaign will continue across more schools, with the support of Mr Felix Olowookere, in line with the mandate of NOA Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, and the Ondo State Director, Mr Adekunle James.

On a final note, Mrs Olumide-Atiba called on all citizens to embrace the National Value Charter, live by its principles, and inspire positive change to make Nigeria proud.
