NUJ Correspondents Chapel, Naija Live TV Seal Partnership For Anti-Drug Campaign In Bayelsa Schools.

In a move to tackle rising social vices among young people, the United Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Bayelsa State Council, has secured a media partnership with Naija Live TV for a statewide sensitisation campaign in secondary schools.
The collaboration was formalized on Thursday, 23rd July 2026, during a courtesy visit by the new executive of the Chapel to the Chief Executive Officer of Naija Live TV, Mr Saint Mienpamo Onitsha, at the station’s headquarters in Yenagoa.
The Partnership & Planned Programme
Chairman of the United Correspondents Chapel, Mr Amgbare Ekaunkumo, said the visit was aimed at fostering deeper collaboration with Naija Live TV on news content and to seek the station’s support for the Chapel’s forthcoming school outreach.
He disclosed that the sensitisation programme is themed: ‘Menace of drug abuse, cultism, cybercrime and the future of Bayelsa students’.
According to him, the campaign will be carried out in selected secondary schools across Yenagoa metropolis in the first phase, with plans to extend to other local government areas.
“The goal is to engage students directly, educate them on the dangers of drug abuse, cultism and cybercrime, and redirect their energy toward productive ventures,” Ekaunkumo stated.
Ekaunkumo commended Naija Live TV for its consistent factual reporting and youth-oriented programmes, noting that the station’s reach and credibility make it a critical partner in shaping public opinion among young people.
“We are confident that this engagement will strengthen synergy in news dissemination and joint sensitisation campaigns. The media has a duty to protect the future of our children, and we are glad Naija Live TV shares this vision,” he said.
Responding, the CEO of Naija Live TV, Mr Saint Mienpamo Onitsha, pledged the station’s full support for the initiative, describing the NUJ as “one big family.”
“I want to assure you that Naija Live TV is open for collaboration. We hold the NUJ, especially the Bayelsa State chapter, in the highest esteem. Anything that has to do with building our youths and securing the future of Bayelsa, we are in,” Onitsha said.
While welcoming the Chapel executives, Onitsha also used the opportunity to speak on the challenges confronting media organizations in Bayelsa.
He recalled how Naija Live TV was shut down for several months following its report on a court subpoena issued to a deputy governor during the Supreme Court case that sacked former governor-elect, David Lyon.
“The report was not false. It put the record straight. But that was our offence. We spent millions defending ourselves in court. At the end of the day, we came out victorious,” he said.
Onitsha further revealed that the station recently won another legal case linked to Governor Douye Diri’s second-term election.
“The matter was struck out for lack of diligent prosecution. I have not even defended myself. But we have spent millions trying to show the world that we are innocent of those false allegations,” he added.
The media entrepreneur appealed to government officials and politicians to allow journalists to carry out their duties without fear or intimidation.
“Media work is not an easy task. They should let us breathe. We are making it legal. We are employing Bayelsans. If you close down the station because of a particular report, you have affected so many families.
“My advice to government authorities and politicians: Let media practitioners breathe. Let us be,” he urged.
