Odusote Makes History as Nigeria’s First Female Law School DG
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Dr. Olugbemisola Odusote as the new Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Law School, effective January 10, 2026. The appointment is for a four-year tenure.
Odusote, currently Deputy DG and Head of the Nigerian Law School Lagos Campus, will succeed Prof. Isa Chiroma, whose eight-year tenure expires on January 9, 2026. She will be the first woman to lead the institution since its establishment in 1962.
A statement by Presidential Spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment.
Odusote obtained her LL.B. degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She holds an LL.M. degree from the same university and a PhD in Law from the University of Surrey, UK.
Her research interests include Public Law and Administration of Justice.
Odusote joined the NLS in 2001 as a lecturer and has served in various capacities, including head of Academic Department and director of Academics.
She has published extensively in local and international law journals and presented papers at numerous conferences.
Odusote has served on committees of the Council of Legal Education (CLE) and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
As DG, Odusote is expected to provide academic leadership and oversee administrative and strategic management across all campuses, liaising with the CLE, Body of Benchers, and the NBA.
Odusote’s appointment marks a significant milestone for the NLS and the legal profession in Nigeria, as her experience and expertise are expected to drive the institution forward.
