Oyo Gov, Makinde, crowns Oba Owoade 46th Alaafin of Oyo


Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade has officially been crowned the 46th Alaafin of Oyo.

He succeeds the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi, the 45th Alaafin, who passed away on April 22, 2022, at the age of 83.
The elaborate coronation ceremony took place on Saturday at the Oliveth Baptist High School grounds, with Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, leading a host of dignitaries, including prominent Nigerians, to witness the historic event.

Among the dignitaries present were the Arole Oodua, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi; the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye; the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi; and the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, among others.
The event also drew important political dignitaries, including President Bola Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu; the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; former Deputy Governor, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.Debo Ogundoyin; and Senator Yunus Akintunde, representing Oyo South, among other notable figures.
Oba Owoade was presented with the staff and instrument of office on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, following the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
The new monarch completed the compulsory 21-day traditional rites, known as Oro Ipebi, on Saturday, March 29.
