The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested 10 suspected cultists in connection with a deadly attack in the Obele area of Yenagoa which left one scavenger dead and three others injured.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Iyama Daniel, disclosed this while parading the suspects.
According to the CP, the suspects were arrested during a raid following a distress call from residents who reported that armed cultists were on the rampage, shooting indiscriminately and robbing people of their phones and other valuables.
Residents said the attackers stormed the area at night and began dispossessing people of their belongings.
“They allegedly opened fire after the iron condemned scavengers resisted attempts to rob them. Many residents ran into their homes for safety, but the iron condemned boys refused to surrender their phones, which angered the cultists and led to the shooting,” a resident said.
One of the victims later died from gunshot injuries at the hospital, while three others survived and are currently receiving treatment.
CP Daniel urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation is essential to tackling crime.
He assured that those responsible for the attack will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Police said investigation is ongoing to ascertain if the arrested suspects belong to any known cult group and to recover other weapons used during the attack.
