Reps Pass For Second Reading A Bill To Establish Agricultural Research Institute In Owode Yewa, Ogun State.

Nigerian House of representatives has passed for second reading a Bill to Establish the National Institute of Agriculture Research and Entrepreneurship, Owode Yewa, Ogun State,

This was sequel to a bill sponsored by Hon. Abiodun Isiaq Akinlade, Representing Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency, Ogun State, which was read for the first time in the Chamber on Thursday 9th May 2024.

In his lead debate, Hon. Abiodun Akinlade said the Establishment of the Institute is crucial to addressing the pressing need for innovation in agriculture and empowering the youth through entrepreneurship.

He noted that Agriculture is a key sector in Nigeria’s economy though its growth has been hindered by limited access to research driving solutions and capacity building initiatives.

Hon Akinlade who is also the chairman of House Committee on Aviation Technology said that Establishment of the National Institute of Agriculture Research is in line with the Renewed Hope of the present administration.

Ogun State federal lawmaker said “the establishment of National Institute of Agriculture Research and Entrepreneurship will provide a center of excellence for advanced agricultural research, promote sustainable farmers and young entrepreneurs with the skills necessary to enhance productivity and economic growth.

“Furthermore, Owode Yewa in particular and Yewa land of Ogun State in general is an ideal location given its rich agricultural heritage and accessibility to both local and international markets as this Institute will not only benefit the region but also contribute significantly to the nation’s food security and economic growth”.

Hon. Akinlade, who is a fourth term member of the House of Representatives stated that the creation of this Institute will also address the issues of Equity, Justice and Fairness in the allocation of National Resources.

When the bill is passed into law it will also create employment and Increase the social, economic and educational development of the region.

The bill has been committed to Agricultural Research and Institution for further Legislative action.
