Senate Approves NCC Budget of N549.6bn for 2024
The approval, which was made during a plenary session on Thursday, followed a thorough consideration of the report presented by the Senate Committee on Communications.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Bilbis Aliyu, provided a breakdown of the Commission’s total expenditure for the year 2024, indicating that N155 billion will go towards recurrent expenses. Additionally, the Senate also approved N17 billion for the Universal Service Provision Fund for the same year.
The Universal Service Provision Fund is an agency under the NCC that works towards enhancing the availability and utilization of network services and applications across Nigeria, particularly in underserved areas and communities.
Lawmakers, including Senator Adeola Olamilekan, supported the budget approval, suggesting that more funds should be considered to further support the agency’s operations.
With this significant budget approval, the NCC is poised to continue its crucial work in ensuring widespread access to communication services for all Nigerians.
