Senator Manu Haruna,

During Wednesday’s Senate session, lawmakers urgently requested the Federal Government to allocate a special intervention fund for the maintenance of transmission lines in the country. This call was prompted by the ongoing power crisis in the North East region, where crucial power lines have been destroyed, resulting in a month-long blackout.

Senator Manu Haruna, along with 14 other lawmakers from the North East zone, sponsored a motion to address the vandalism of transmission lines belonging to the Transmission Company of Nigeria. Highlighting the critical need for immediate action, Senator Haruna emphasized the severe disruptions to power supply affecting seven states in the region.

Lawmakers representing the northern part of Nigeria voiced their concerns about the escalating power outages and called for justice for those affected. They stressed the long-standing neglect faced by the people of the North East and urged for more attention to be given to their well-being.

In response to the crisis, the Senate made a plea to President Bola Tinubu to expedite the construction of the Makurdi-Jalingo-Yola-Gombe 330KV transmission line. This project aims to connect the North East to the South East transmission line, providing an alternative supply path in case of any faults on the Jos-Gombe line.

The Senate’s appeal for special intervention funds is crucial to ensure a stable and uninterrupted electricity supply for the region. By addressing the immediate challenges faced by residents in the North East, this initiative aims to improve the quality of life for the affected communities and bring much-needed relief to those grappling with prolonged power outages.
