Senate Chamber Arrangements Spark Heated Debate Among Senators
The Nigerian Senate was embroiled in a tense debate on Tuesday as Senate Whip Senator Ali Ndume raised objections to the newly renovated Senate Chamber’s arrangements. The debate, which escalated into a heated discussion among members, focused on the overall layout of the Chamber.
Senator Ndume, a seasoned legislator, expressed his disappointment with the Chamber’s design, arguing that it did not meet the standards expected of such a significant legislative space. Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio defended the arrangements, stating that 99% of the seating arrangements had already been finalized. Akpabio clarified that the renovation project was initiated by the 9th Senate, not the current 10th Senate, and assured members that the issues raised would be carefully considered.
Tensions flared further during the session as Senators Danjuma Goje and Sahabi Yau engaged in a heated argument over their assigned back seats. Both Senators expressed dissatisfaction with their seating arrangements and raised their concerns with Majority Leader Senator Opeyemi Bamidele.
