Synergy between Town Planners, Ministry ‘ll boost Ondo’s IGR, enhance buildings’ safety – Olaniyi

Determined to ensure safety of buildings as well as boosting the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of Ondo, the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr Gbenga Olaniyi has called for synergy between the Town Planning Consultants and prospective developers within the state and the Ministry.

The Commissioner stated this in his office, at his maiden meeting with the Consultants held in Akure.

He reiterated, that the urban renewal programme of the State Governor, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa Governor Ayedatiwa, is aimed at achieving modern physical planning, urban renewal and building control that would avert building collapse and also increase internally generated revenue for more infrastructural development in the state.

According to a statement signed by the Ministry’s Director of Information, Williams Oni, he noted, that as stakeholders in the urbanization of towns and cities as well as general development of the state, the Consultants should always avail the Ministry with their professional advice in order to meet its obligations to the government and the general public.

He enjoined them and members of their professional bodies to continue to support the present administration in his quest at providing more dividends of democracy and make the state a better place for living.

In his remarks, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Chief Bunmi Alade who appreciated the Consultants, described them as partners in progress which the Ministry should engage in regular interactive meetings to achieve its mandate and perform its statutory role in line with the best global practices.

To achieve safety of building constructions in the state, the Consultants advised the Ministry to provide its monitoring and enforcement department with necessary equipment so as to regularly monitor and enforce compliance with the development permits approved by the Ministry.

They also enjoined the Ministry to reclassify developers and building projects to review its fees order as a means to boost the state’s revenue.

The meeting was attended by all the Directors and other senior Officers of the Ministry.
