


Former Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, CON, has reiterated his determination to build a School of Nursing in Ikaram-Akoko, Ondo State. He made the disclosure at a reception organised in his honour by the Ikaram Progressive Union to kickstart this year’s Ikaram Image Award. Prince Adetokunbo Kayode who also served as Defence Minister, at the heroic and legendary reception, pronounced that he will revisit his determination to embark on the construction of the Nursing school in Ikaram-Akoko.


It would be recalled that almost twelve (12) years ago while still serving as a Federal Minister, he decided on this project but was unable to get it going due to certain concerns of his own even though the resources to complete the project were earmarked after the foundation was laid. As a patriotic and passionate citizen of the town, he had heard enough of the cry of his people and while speaking on the Ikaram Progressive Union launching of the 50 million naira education endowment fund, he made the public pronouncement that the nursing school will be built and the site of the school will be re-imagined by December 2023.

He also revealed a book he has co-authored, the dictionary of Yoruba, English, and Ikaram language, which is almost ready for publication and will be made available in December 2023 as well. In his support for the Image Award 2023 and the launching of the 50 million naira education endowment fund, Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, CON donated the sum of one million naira for the initiative. “Prince Adetokunbo Kayode, SAN, CON, is a litigator who concentrates his practice on a range of complex commercial litigation matters, including construction. “He has served the Federal Government of Nigeria in many capacities, holding several positions in the cabinet of President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and was appointed Defence Minister of Nigeria in April 2010 by the then Acting President Goodluck Jonathan. “He has also served as Minister of Culture & Tourism, Hon. Minister of Labor and Productivity, and Attorney General & Minister for Justice. Another donor at the day one of the events was Sir Dr Charles Adetokunbo Akanbi, who will be receiving the Prestigious Award of the organization and also supported the initiative with the sum of one million naira. One of the illustrious sons, Mr O.J Afolabi, who was in attendance and is currently serving as a permanent secretary in Ondo State government and has done so much for the town in terms of infrastructure also supported the initiative. O. J. Afolabi will receive an award for the 2nd edition of the Image Award program The national president of the association, Chief (Dr) Odomode Adeyemi LaCrown who’s been leading the charge for the past three days reported that the grand finale of the Image Award will take place on Sunday, August 27th, 2023, at the community Townhall, where about 50 sons and daughters of the town who had contributed immensely to the growth and development of the town will be decorated with various awards.
