The International Organization of the United Nations Volunteers has Passed a vote of Confidence on the Leadership of the National Agency For Great Green Wall,(NAGGW) under the Leadership of Dr.Yusuf Maina Bukar.
The Group at a World Press Conference, held on Monday September 4th, 2023 at the Top Ranks Hotel, Area 11 Gimbiya Street Garki, FCT Abuja, did sensitise, create awareness, and set the records straight, on the mandate, operations, and performance of the Agency.
It commended Dr Maina for providing a purposeful and result oriented leadership for the National Agency For the Great Green Wall in Nigeria as evidenced across the 36 State of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory.
The Director Volunteers, International Organization of UN Volunteers, (IOUNV) Ambassador Luke Jacob, pointed out that the World Press Conference became necessary and expedient to inform the public on the operational methodologies of the Agency, separate myth from reality, giving the Current happenings he said.
According to Amb Luke, few days ago, the Nation’s media space was flooded with unpalatable statement believed to have emanated from the National Assembly on the activities of the Agency.
The Director said in as much as the Nation’s legislative body was held in high esteem by the UN Volunteers and even the Nigerian Citizen, it will never cast aspersions on their integrity nor join issues with their statutory duty of oversight functions.
The United Nations Volunteers with all sense of patriotism urged the National Assembly to apply more caution and decorum in handling matters to avoid misrepresentation,which might bring to disrepute the hard-earned integrity of those who are their partners in progress.
Amb. Luke said, the NAGGW under Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar the DG/CEO has been a worthy partner to United Volunteers and the Civil Society Community who have steadfastly and constantly put them (NAGGW) on their toes to deliver on the mandate of the office, even now that President Ahmed Tinubu has brought “Renewed Hope”to all Nigerians through his people Centred and inclusive leadership.
He also added that, part of their engagement with the agency was continuous monitoring and evaluation of all her activities including the Zonal Intervention Projects and all Constituency Projects of the National assembly domiciled in the NAGGW.
The Director UN Volunteers said Dr Maina over the years has provided a transparent and accountable leadership who respect and follows due process in coordinating the affairs of the agency in line with the agency’s act, and has worked with relevant authority, stakeholders, Youth, CSOs and NGOs to realise the core mandate of the agency.
Continuing, Amb Luke further stressed that, Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar had promoted and supported local, National and International conferences that championed the course of planting trees, discouraging deforestation, creating a green society that has brought about ecological advantage and also saved the livers of our ecological habitat.
Amb. Luke said the agency under the leadership of Dr Yusuf Maina has empowered many Youths, NGOs and CSOs in the area of capacity building, knowledge and skills in both local, State and the federal levels for the effective implementation of the great green wall project.
He further explained that, the agency under the leadership of Dr. Maina has trained and engaged about 1,397 youth as Forrest guard to curtail social unrest,in addition to 205 Grinding Machines it has procured and distributed to Women and Youth.
According to the Director UN Volunteers, about 210,709 Youth and Women were engaged in direct tree Planting and other related activities. the agency also procured about 85 unit of Motorcycle and distributed to Forest Guard for patrolling to prevent indiscriminate tree felling.
He butreessed that the National Agency For Great Green Wall, NAGGW under the stewardship of Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar has performed creditably well in the area of capacity building and development, saying that the agency under Dr. Yusuf established ( 2) Automatic Weather Station for field data Collection, monitoring and evaluation Framework develop for implementation of the M&E system for the Great Green Wall Program in Nigeria.
Amb.Luke Jacob said the ensence of cataloguing the numerous achievements of the agency under Dr. Yusuf Maina Bukar is not to dress him in a saintly ropes but to inform the World and the Nigerian public the commitments of the agency to fast track its mandate and also deliver on the benefits that it stands to provide quality services to Nigerians.
He further added that the core mandate of the agency is transforming the Nation’s Dry land through aggressive and robust tree-planting Campaign Program.
Finally, the UN Volunteers called on interested individuals and Organizations to painstakingly check out fact to avoid a misrepresentation that might hinder the agency from achieving it set goals.
