Residents of Afin, Akoko North West, Cries Out Over Invasion of A Swarm of Strange Insects.

Residents of the ancient town of Afin In Akoko North West local government area of Ondo State has cried out over the invasion of a swarm of strange insects.

The people of the community confirmed that these insects invaded both their houses and farm lands several days ago and nothing seems to be killing them, their lives are becoming more difficult by the day.

“We are raising alarm over the swarm of strange insects in our town, as we have tried all we could to kill them, but we are getting little or no result.

“Our farmers can no longer go to farm, and our women can no longer go to market. This is so strange and it is getting out of hand already,” a resident of Afin community lamented.

The report of our investigation revealed that most farmers are almost abandoning their farming activities while social activities are also affected.

Two farmers who spoke to Ebony Herald, Alhaji Abu Balogun and Mr Williams Babarinde, expressed fear about the offensive odour from the insects, and said that it might lead to serious health issues if not urgently checked by government.

According to them, they were using hot water and gammalin 20 to kill the insects, but have so far achieved little or no success.

“Our people cannot prepare food or eat in open places for fear of being contaminated by the insects,” a resident complained.

“We have never seen anything like this before. The insects are so much and have taken over everywhere. We keep boiling water to kill them, but they keep increasing.

“They are on the floors, walls and every where in our houses and farm lands.

“Another issue is that there is these terrible offensive odour that comes our from the ones that die. It is so terrible and unbearable.

“This is a state of emergency, as all the attempts we have made to proffer solution to this menace are not working,” another resident said, crying to government for help.

In a chat with the monarch, the Alafin of Afin Oba, Professor Abduraheem Mustapha Adejoro, he said the matter had been discussed in Oba council.
He appealed to government and relevant government agencies to come to Afin Akoko to help them.

The Oba noted that his people are so much worried about the ugly development, and this is affecting their lives already.
