Yahaya Bello To Remain In EFCC’s Custody As Court Strikes Out Bail Application

Justice Maryann Anenih of a Federal Capital Territory High Court, on Tuesday, struck out the bail application filed by the immediate past governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
According to Anenih, the bail application was struck out on the grounds that it was filed prematurely, when the former governor had not been taken into custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
The application was filed on Nov. 22, while the Bello was taken into custody of EFCC on November 26 and arraigned on November 27.
The former governor and two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, are facing a 16-count charge of money laundering involving N110.4 billion.
Justice Anenih had previously ordered their remand in EFCC custody following their plea of not guilty and adjourned the case for a bail ruling on December 10.
Bello is accused of misappropriating state funds to acquire multiple properties, Bello also allegedly transferred $570,330 and $556,265 to TD Bank, USA, using stolen fund.
