Police Arrest 8 Suspected Cultists Over Assault on NDU Student in Yenagoa.

Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, of the Bayelsa State Police Command have arrested eight suspected cultists in connection with the assault of a 300-level student of Niger Delta University, NDU, Amassoma.

The incident occurred on *July 14, 2026, at about 10:00pm* at a hotel along Mike Okokpo Street, Yenagoa, following a distress call by a concerned citizen.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the suspects allegedly beat up the victim, identified as *Prince Hansen*, over an alleged debt of *₦70,000*, inflicting grievous bodily harm on him within the hotel premises.

“Upon receipt of the distress call, operatives of the VCRU swung into action and arrested eight suspects,” DSP Mohammed said in a statement issued on Friday.

Those arrested are: *Desmond Linus, 20; Richman Serbokuro, 21; Plain Lion, 19; Richman Joel, 20; Solomon Damian, 23; Destiny Serbokuro, 24; Isaac Goodnews, 22; and Theresa Francis, 22*. Six of them are students of NDU, Amassoma.

During a search, the police recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp, swinol, and charms from the suspects.

DSP Mohammed said investigation is ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism and other violent crimes in the state, and urged members of the public to provide timely information to the Police to enhance security.
