EKITI ATTORNEY-GENERAL, APATA CALLS FOR COLLABORATIVE EFFORT TO END HUMAN TRAFFICKING
Ekiti State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Dayo Apata (SAN) has called on members of the State Taskforce on Human Trafficking and other stakeholders in the State to collaborate and work as a team to curb human trafficking and other heinous crimes being perpetrated by and against young people in the State.
Apata who is the chairman of the Taskforce made the call in Ado Ekiti during the maiden meeting of members of the Taskforce in 2025; stressing that the goals of the taskforce could only be actualized through members’ concerted collective efforts.
The Attorney General, who condemned some stakeholders’ act of working in isolation said such individualistic approach to the fight against human trafficking would neither yield the desired results nor add value to the task before them for the year.
He therefore appealed to the stakeholders to unite and support one another while carrying out their assignments.
The commissioner also directed that a committee to be headed by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr. Sunday Bamise be set up to identify major vices that affect young persons in Ekiti State and fashion out the best approach to handle such to reduce push and pull factors that increase trafficking of any kind.
Earlier, the secretary of the State Taskforce, Mrs Shirley Atane had presented the report of the 5-day Capacity Building for officers of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), members of the State Taskforce and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) on the harmonized reporting tools for the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) held in Lagos State recently.
Atane reported that members of the Taskforce who attended the workshop were urged to cascade the training at their various States.
Representatives of NAPTIP, NDLEA, National Human Rights Commission unanimously commended the state government and solicited for greater support to effectively carry out their duties of making the state human trafficking free.
