Kebbi govt dismisses claims of rising homosexual, lesbian populations

The Kebbi State Government has refuted allegations that the state accounts for 15,979 registered homosexuals and 18,567 registered lesbians.
Governor Comrade Dr Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, dismissed the claims while reacting to a sermon delivered at an Islamic gathering by Dr Nasir Kigo, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Office, Birnin Kebbi.
Expressing strong disapproval of the figures presented by the permanent secretary, the governor described the statistics as baseless and lacking any credible evidence to support them.

“After a thorough investigation, the government discovered that this information is false.
“Therefore, we urge the general public to disregard it as it lacks merit,” he stated.
Governor Idris further announced that the government would take action against the permanent secretary for propagating such unverified statistics.
It would be recalled that Dr Kigo had delivered a lecture during an Islamic gathering, which was later posted on Facebook.
In his sermon, he alleged that during the first census of homosexual and lesbian individuals, Sokoto State ranked second nationwide, with 9,978 registered homosexuals and 10,456 registered lesbians, placing them third in the country.
According to him, Kebbi State initially recorded 1,088 registered homosexuals and 7,986 registered lesbians.
However, he claimed that in a subsequent census, these numbers had risen to 15,979 and 18,567, respectively.
The Kebbi State Government maintains that these figures are entirely unfounded and urges the public to disregard them.
