ONDO GOVT PARTNERS PROFESSIONAL BODIES TO RESTRAIN BUILDING COLLAPSE.
The present administration of Governor Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Ondo state would continue to partner with organizations, relevant professional bodies and other stakeholders to regulate construction of buildings in the state with a view to preventing incessant collapse of building being experienced in other states of the federation.
The state Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Hon Gbenga Olaniyi,who stated this while playing host to the Executive of the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Ondo State chapter who paid him courtesy visit in his office in Akure affirmed that Ayedatiwa led administration would not leave any stone unturned to restrain disaster of building collapse in the state.
Hon Olaniyi enjoined the leadership and members of the Institute to continue to partner with the Ministry to achieve success in its mandate of ensuring physical and urban development of towns and cities in the state as well as the urban renewal agenda of the present administration.
While calling on the Executive to eliminate quacks among its members, the Commissioner assured them that the Ministry would continue to exploit the expertise of its members in regulating the activities of building contractors to achieve building to specifications and in line with best global practices.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the State Chapter of the Institute, Architect Adetunji Bello said the body is ready to synergize with the Ministry to prevent lapses that could cause disaster of building collapse in the state.
Arch. Bello, who decried construction of buildings without escape outlet in case of any unforseen eventuality, said the Institute is now giving registration number to its members to eliminate quacks among them.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Chief Bunmi Alade, commended the collaboration between members of the Institute and the Ministry in regulating the activities of building contractors and issuance of approval for construction of buildings in the state.
Chief Alade solicited for greater cooperation, particularly for the newly created Building Control Department with the mandate to monitor and enforce that all building constructions follow approved specification right from the foundation level till completion.
