Security forces are gearing up to tackle insurgents who are causing disruptions to power supply in Northern Nigeria, according to an announcement made by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin. The ongoing insurgent activities have been a major factor in hindering the repair of critical power lines in the region, resulting in widespread outages that have affected the North-east, North-west, and parts of North-central Nigeria.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has been grappling with the fallout from the vandalism of transmission lines, particularly the crucial Shiroro-Kaduna line. Nafisatu Ali, the executive director of the Independent System Operator, recently revealed that this transmission line, which plays a vital role in supplying power to northern Nigeria, had been vandalized by insurgents. This has not only impacted the availability of electricity in the region but has also had far-reaching consequences for the economy and daily lives of the people living there.

In response to these challenges, Jibrin provided assurance that the security agencies are poised to take decisive action against the insurgents who are responsible for the disruptions to the power supply. The Deputy Senate President highlighted that the office of the National Security Adviser is actively involved in addressing this issue and coordinating efforts to combat the insurgent activities that are causing significant harm to the region’s infrastructure and economy.

The security forces are now deploying resources and strategies to combat the insurgency and safeguard critical infrastructure, including power lines, so as to prevent further disruptions to the power supply in Northern Nigeria. The government’s commitment to addressing this issue is crucial for ensuring the stability and development of the region, as well as the well-being of its residents.
