Right wife enhances her husband’s success — Ibukun Awosika

Businesswoman and former First Bank Chairperson, Ibukun Awosika, has stressed the importance of partnership in marriage, saying a wife should be an asset who adds value to her husband’s life and enhances his ability to succeed.
Awosika made the remarks while sharing her perspective on the roles of men and women in building successful and fulfilling marriages.
Speaking about her own marriage, she revealed that although she is the financially inclined person in her family, her husband plays a significant role in ensuring that their family remains financially secure.
According to her, the success of a marriage should not be measured solely by the financial contribution of either the husband or wife, but by the combined value that both partners bring to the relationship.
She said a woman who is properly positioned within a marriage can contribute significantly to her husband’s success, just as a man can provide value and support that enables his wife to achieve her potential.
“If you marry the right wife, you marry an asset that is meant to add value to your life and enhance your ability to succeed, and both ways.
The incompleteness of a man is made complete by the woman God has assigned for him,” she said.
Awosika also emphasised the importance of recognising and maximising the strengths of women, noting that women constitute a significant portion of the population.
“50% of our population is women, and if you ignore 50% of your asset, you cannot succeed,” she said.
She maintained that women should be given the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to their families and society, stressing that their abilities and experiences could play an important role in achieving success.
The businesswoman cautioned against viewing marriage as a competition between a man and a woman, saying such an approach could undermine the essence of partnership and mutual support.
According to her, husbands and wives should recognise their individual strengths and work together to complement one another, rather than compete over who contributes more to the relationship.
“Marriage is about two people partnering to succeed,” Awosika said, stressing that a successful home is built when both partners combine their strengths, abilities and experiences to create a better life.
